About Me

Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me and Mr Panda.

I am an author, storyteller and children’s performer who has been creating magical memories for children since 1988. I have been sprinkling music, laughter, colour and happy sunshine moments wherever I perform, with one simple aim—to make children smile.

My journey to bringing Mr Panda to life has been quite an adventure.

Originally, my dream was simply to gain my Equity card and become a professional performer. Along the way, I tried being a magician’s assistant—but I couldn’t quite fit into the illusion box! I even auditioned to dance at the Moulin Rouge, only to discover after my first audition that dancing definitely wasn’t my greatest talent. I even spent a short time appearing in a circus knife-throwing act!

What I did discover was something much more special.

I had an endless supply of energy and a genuine gift for making children laugh.

With a colourful costume lovingly handmade by my wonderful mum, I introduced my comedy character, Rainbow Bigbottom, in 1988, performing at children’s birthday parties while working towards my Equity card.

Everything changed when a theatre manager saw one of my performances and invited me to appear on his stage. That single invitation led to something I could never have imagined.

The Birth of Mr Panda

As the theatre productions grew, so did the magic.

Our family shows toured theatres and venues across the UK, filled with original songs, comedy, dancing, puppetry and plenty of stardust.

During one production, I introduced a tiny glove puppet called Mr Panda to help cover a quick scene change. To my surprise, the children completely fell in love with him.

It soon became clear that Mr Panda wasn’t just another character—he had become the true star of the show.

Before long, that little glove puppet magically transformed into an enormous eight-foot-tall panda who sang, danced and brought joy to audiences everywhere.

Over the years, my company has grown into a wonderful family of performers, including my much-loved Clownettes and many talented actors who have appeared in theatre productions, family events and corporate entertainment.

Together, we have entertained thousands of children throughout the UK in homes, village halls, schools, studios and theatres.

Along the way, we have enjoyed some truly unforgettable moments, including meeting members of the Royal Family, entertaining at events attended by royal children, and being featured in national newspapers, including The Sunday Times, for our work with children.

Every performance has been built around one simple belief—that every child deserves moments of laughter, imagination and happiness.

A New Chapter

After many wonderful years on stage, I wanted the adventures of Mr Panda to live on beyond the theatre.

I have now turned those magical stage productions into my first children’s book, Mr Panda and His Magical Bamboo, which is due to be published this year.

This marks an exciting new chapter as Mr Panda’s adventures move from the stage into the hands of young readers.

Looking ahead, we are delighted to be planning our return to the theatre in 2028 with a brand-new production of Mr Panda and His Magical Bamboo.

Alongside the theatre show, I will also be visiting schools as an author and storyteller, bringing Mr Panda to life through fun, interactive author visits designed to inspire children to discover the joy of reading, storytelling and using their imagination.

Looking to the Future

One of my greatest ambitions is to work with Mr Panda to bring joy to children who need it most.

It is my heartfelt wish to give my time to children’s charities throughout the UK and around the world, visiting children who could benefit from a little extra magic, kindness and hope.
